Moy Park Miles Blog – Maz

‘Moy Park Miles’ is a collection of interviews that are showcasing some of our wonderful staff as they prepare for Belfast City Marathon this year (you might have heard we’re the title sponsor)!

In our next interview, we are chatting to our Customer Marketing Manager, Maz Wilson. Maz delves into her running journey and her top tips for doing a good run.

Hey Maz, we’d love to hear a little more about yourself.

Thanks for having me! I am Maz Wilson. I am 30 and work as a Customer Marketing Manager for Moy Park. It’s a really rewarding job and I enjoy gaining insights into our customers’ wants and needs.

It sounds like it. Will you be doing the relay or the full marathon?

I’ll be doing the relay with some other members of the team. It’s always more fun to run with friends!

Do you have any cool facts about yourself?

I am a wee bit of an adrenaline junky – I have done a bungee jump and a sky dive over the years. I look forward to more fun challenges in the future!

Wow, you’re braver than us! The question that we all want to know is what trainers can you not run without?

Oh, that is a good question with only one answer: my trusty Asics Gel-Kayano’s. They have seen some miles already and I know they’ll come through for me on marathon day.

Marathons are a great opportunity for people to raise money for charity. Will you be running for any charities this year?

The team and I will be running for Moy park’s nominated charity, SANDS, the baby loss prevention and support charity.

A great charity! We want to hear about your running routes: any places that you love to run?

This is maybe not the answer you’re expecting but my favourite route is anywhere I have company! I rarely run by myself and enjoy chatting while getting the miles in! So, it’s not really about the place for me, more about enjoying the journey with friends and other people who enjoy pounding the pavements – whatever the weather!

We love that! A lot of the time running can feel like such a lonely sport, so it’s wonderful hear that you’ve got a good community around you that help you enjoy running.

Absolutely – it doesn’t have to be a lonely sport! I’m part of a running club, so I train three to four times a week with like-minded individuals. Not only is this great for my training but it’s also brilliant for socialising. On top of marathon training , I am also running a 10-mile race and a half marathon in March and April so this is all counting towards my marathon training as well!

You’ve convinced us to join a running club now! Running can be challenging and we like to have a few motivational quotes in our minds as we are doing the miles. Have you got any quotes that help you focus and get through your pacing?

My mantra daily is “I can do hard things”. I say this to myself before running or doing tasks that are challenging. Manifesting this makes those more difficult tasks achievable.

What a great way to motivate yourself. What about your playlists? Any songs that you have on repeat that help with clocking up your miles?

Oh, there are a few but one that helps me push harder when the run is getting that little tougher is If I Can’t by 50 Cent.

Our final question and are favourite one: how are you fuelling for the marathon this year?

I always eat really plain Moy Park chicken and pasta the night before a race, but I’m very much looking forward to a fakeaway at home after the event – the Sweet & Sour Chicken Stir Fry with Moy Park Tempura Chunks looks delicious!!

Spoiler: we’ve had them and they’re tasty – it’ll be a lovely treat for a great run. Thanks for chatting to us today, Maz, and good luck with your training!
